Every Christmas I love to make our very own gingerbread recipe.
Ever since I read in Family Fun magazine a step by step recipe and a great way to support the gingerbread from falling apart.
With a support of a six pack. The cardboard case can be from a six pack of beer or soda just save the cardboard carrier for later.
This recipe is so tasty with butter and mild molalssas. The kids love to acually eat it! I use the same recipe for ginger bread men too. They are a popular cookie and using fresh ground cloves I think makes a a difference too.
5 cups of flour
1 tsp of baking soda ( i use 3 tsp of baking powder)
2 tsp of ginger
1 tsp of cinnamon ( i use 2 tsp)
1/2 tsp of nutmeg
1/2 tsp of ground cloves
1 c butter softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 large egg room temp
1 c molassas ( use mild ( grease cup measure first))
1 tsp vanilla
sift dry ingredients and set aside. beat butter sugar and egg until fluffy, grease cup measure an ad one cup of molasses blending to egg mixture then add vanilla.
add one cup of flour mixture at a time dough will get firm but not crumbly add more flour if still sticky. split dough in half and cover in plastic in refriderator for four hours or over night.
For shaping the gingerbread templates . I roll onto floured foil covered cookie sheets trace around top and sides of the six pack cardboard carrier for the walls. A pizza cutter works great .

For the roof i cut two rectangle tops off a cereal box and tape together over the cardboard carrier. trace the roof on rolled out dough over foil covered cooke sheet.

bake at 350 for 15 to 20 min until edges look firm or a little dark let cool completely before removing it can be soft. will dry firm and hard after an hour or so.
To glue the sides of the ginger bread to the cardboard i just make a paste out of water and powdered sugar used a bowl and one tsp of water to a cup of powdered sugar mix until not too runny add more powdered sugar if needed. flour will be on the gingerbread. I keep a clean wet sponge near by or wet towel and wipe off the flour from the gingerbread to help the paste stick.
support the house with the glued on walls against heavy items or between or against a wall to sit overnight and dry.

once the glue holds and is dry you can attach cereal or candy on the out side of the house and the roof to decorate. Smells good for weeks.
